The Myrna Loy’s upcoming season offers more than 20 scheduled events over the next nine months.
In his first full season programming live shows, Executive Director Benji Cosgrove has a roster that includes stand-up comedians, trendy synth rock and funk bands, and other offerings from around the globe in the mix.
“One of the best things I inherited from Krys (Holmes, former executive director) was institutional trust,” Cosgrove said in a news release. “We have a lot of performers who come through The Myrna who Helenans have never heard of. And no one wants to do a ton of research about who and what and why. But we’ve done the research, and our audiences know that.”
The Myrna Loy is at 15 N. Ewing St. in Helena.
Cosgrove is joined by Ramsay Ballew, who replaced him as The Myrna Loy’s film programmer last November, and who builds on the growing foundation of her new Family Movie Night programming, as well as a roster of artists slated to show in the Jailhouse Gallery.
"The Myrna Loy holds a special place for people in Helena, and I think one of the many things this organization does really well is keep a variety of pathways open for folks to come into authentically,” Ballew said.
The season kicks off 7 p.m. Sept. 26 with the Indigenous Film Festival, showing six contemporary short films by and about Indigenous people. The following week brings the season’s inaugural live performance, featuring the Chilean folk artist Nano Stern 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3.

Bill Bowers brings one of the most highly anticipated performances of the season on Nov. 7. Heralded as the greatest mime of our generation, and celebrated worldwide, Bowers is a master of physical storytelling.
The Myrna Loy also scheduled Grammy and Juno awards winner Alex Cuba for a soulful night of Latin pop on Nov. 14.

Film classics will be shown such as “Meet Me in St. Louis” on Dec. 3. JigJam returns to the Myrna Loy for another round of Irish bluegrass on March 6.
“Saturday Night Live in Helena” offers some comedic relief mid-way through the legislative session. For four nights March 12-15.

Genre-bending Americana band Cold Chocolate, out of Boston, brings their unique folk-fusion sound on May 1, and Brazilian afrobeat artist Luciene Dom slams the door shut on the season with her powerhouse vocals.
“There is about to be a lot going on, and our season is long,” Cosgrove said in the news release.
