MISSOULA — The Glacier Range Riders' bid for their first Pioneer Baseball League title took a serious hit Friday night in Davis, California.
The Flathead Valley-based team lost Game 3 of their best-of-5 championship series with the Lolo High Wheelers, 6-3, at Dobbins Stadium. The Range Riders now have their backs against the wall, needing to win Saturday and Sunday to claim PBL bragging rights.
Yolo (57-43) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning but Glacier (51-50) knotted the score with a pair of runs in the fourth. Ben Fitzgerald ripped an RBI single and Andy Atwood also drove in a run.
The High Wheelers reclaimed the lead with three runs in the fifth off Range Riders starter Cooper Benson. Brayland Skinner hit a solo homer and the hosts added two more runs thanks to a passed ball and bases-loaded walk.
Ben Ferrer picked up with the win, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in five innings. Ty Buckner picked up his second save of the series.
Yolo finished with six hits to five for Glacier. Skinner had a game-high two hits and four RBIs.
Billy Horton, who managed the Billings Mustangs last year, is skipper for the High Wheelers. This year marks the second in a row he has led a team to the PBL championship series and he's in pursuit of his first league title at the helm.
The High Wheelers are in their inaugural season. The Range Riders have been in the PBL since 2022 but this year is the first they have competed in postseason play.
