Three school office managers were recognized as Essential School Personnel of the Year by the Kalispell Education Foundation for their outstanding behind-the-scenes work to ensure schools run smoothly.  

Awardees Teresa Hartford of Edgerton Elementary, Kim Lalum of Peterson Elementary, and Sandy Weeks of the Agricultural Education Center were selected from nearly 150 nominations submitted to the foundation from parents, students, teachers and community members. The recipients were selected by the Kalispell Education Foundation Student Board whose members are Flathead High School students Vincent Lam and Naomi Miller and Glacier High School students Gabrielle Crozier and Creed Wiley.  

"Our community appreciates the hard work of KPS (Kalispell Public Schools) essential staff and we are so excited to be able to highlight and honor them this year," said Kalispell Education Foundation Executive Director Dorothy Drury. "These incredible individuals work tirelessly outside of the classroom and exemplify the dedication, care, and commitment that make our public schools outstanding communities.  

The awardees also received $250 through a partnership with Stockman Bank.  

Hartford is known for her welcoming demeanor, exceptional organization, and warm presence, according to a press release.  

“Teresa personally knows and cares for every single child and adult in our school! She miraculously oversees everything going on at Edgerton, yet still finds time to make us sourdough bread, put a Band-Aid on a chin, or deliver a package she knows you’ve been anticipating,” a nominator described.  

Lalum is known for her unwavering dedication and versatility, stepping into various roles with patience and compassion such as reading interventionist and classroom teacher before taking on the office manager position at Peterson, according to the release.  

“Kim not only does everything asked of her with a happy heart, but she goes above and beyond. She works hard at what is expected and then always surprises me by taking initiative and going the extra mile,” a nominator said.  

Weeks was described as the cornerstone of the Agricultural Education Center, providing steadfast support and encouragement to students.  

“Sandy Weeks has tremendously impacted my life. She is one of the most kindhearted and well-meaning women I know. She always picks me up on my bad days and gives me the best advice. Of course, her chocolate jar helps too! She gave me the courage and strength to reach out for help when I needed it. She truly deserves this recognition,” a nominator said.
