The 2024 Helenduro mountain bike race had its annual running Saturday in the hills of Helena.

The Queen City race is part of the Montana Enduro Series, now celebrating its 10th year. Organizers said the Montana Enduro Series is “the brainchild” of the Montana Bicycle Guild. Members said the race grew from a conversation in late 2013 in Helena to bring an enduro series to Montana.

Enduro is a form of mountain bike racing, according to www.liv-cycling.com. enduro races involve anywhere from 3-6 timed stages. The timed portions of the race are mostly downhill but can vary in steepness, length, and difficulty depending on location. Between each stage, there are untimed “transfer stages” that are mostly uphill.

2024 Helenduro took place in the South Hills Saturday morning. The youngest racer of the day goes down 2006 trail on the last stage of the race.

Enduro mountain bike racing started in Europe with influence from car rally racing and motorbike enduro racing, www.liv-cycling.com stated.
