Description

Middle and high school history research projects will be showcased at Flathead Valley Community College Feb. 8 as part of the National History Day program.

National History Day is an academic program for students in grades 6-12. Participating students choose a topic on an annual theme to conduct extensive research on using primary and secondary sources from libraries, archives and museums, for example. This year’s theme is Rights and Responsibilities in History.

In a similar setup to a science fair, students will present the conclusions and evidence of their research through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites, to judges and attendees for the chance to advance to the state and national level. The state competition is scheduled April 12 at Montana State University. Through this process students develop skills in communication, project management and historical thinking.

The history fair will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the Arts and Technology building. FVCC is located at 777 Grandview Dr. in Kalispell.

The history fair is hosted by the Conrad Mansion Museum with support from the Montana Historical Society with funding from Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Community Education Grant Program.
