Description
This Wednesday marks nine weeks that the Great Pyrenees, Baldone, has been on his own in the woods north of Whitefish.
On Nov. 13, the pup was riding in a truck with his owner, Rob Bowen, on Highway 93 north of Whitefish, when they suffered an accident in which Bowen died. The dog ran when first responders appeared on the scene.
While many have searched for Baldone (pronounced Bald One) and others have spotted him, he has eluded capture.
The most recent sighting was Friday, Jan. 10, when several snowmobilers reported seeing him just northeast of Olney, about seven miles up Stryker Ridge. They reported he had been under a tree before running off and that his coat appeared to be thick and healthy.
Baldone searchers ask that snowmobilers and others in the area keep an eye out for the large, white dog.
